Press Release - Richard Cochrane

RheEnergise Statement

20th June 2023

Professor Richard Cochrane

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Richard Cochrane's passing. Richard was one of the four founders of RheEnergise (acting as Chief Innovation Officer) and a huge part of our progress in the early years. He continued to provide regular contributions and input to RheEnergise, even with his health complications and other commitments as a professor of Renewable Energy at the University of Exeter.

The passing of Richard is a huge loss for his family, friends, RheEnergise and the industry. He was very influential, inspiring students and engineers from his early years at quietrevolution ltd building vertical axis wind turbines, to his later years at Exeter University in the Department of Engineering (Renewable Energy) and of course, at RheEnergise.

Despite determinedly battling motor neurone disease, Richard Cochrane passed away on Thursday 25th May 2023. Taken far too soon, he leaves a huge hole in our lives but also leaves an enduring environmental legacy and one we will continue to uphold. Richard dedicated his career to fighting climate change and the entire team at RheEnergise is committed to carrying on his vision. He is survived by his three beloved children.
