HIGH-DENSITY HYDRO® IN TEXAS
GIS Insights and Commercial Opportunities

Texas Power Grid Faces Critical Challenges
Texas is expected to face severe strain on its power grid within the next five years, and immediate action is essential to avoid potential disruptions.
A significant 30% increase in peak demand is anticipated, driven by factors such as heatwaves, winter storms (resulting from climate change), economic expansion in major cities, demographic shifts, industry electrification, and the rapid growth of data centers.
The strain on the grid is expected to be intense, and as both energy generation and demand become increasingly decentralized, and the challenge will only intensify.
There is insufficient time to build enough new grid infrastructure or large-scale generation projects to meet this growing demand. While the number of new solar PV and wind power assets will rise rapidly, these renewable sources are inherently intermittent, necessitating a solution to address daily variability.
RheEnergise:
A Solution for Intermittency and Grid Resilience
RheEnergise has the solution: our High-Density Hydro® (HD Hydro®) long-duration energy storage technology. Utilizing our in house GIS capabilities and analysis of Texas, we have identified abundant
opportunities for HD Hydro® projects, particularly near major Texan cities and industrial areas.
Are there enough sites?
The answer is unequivocally yes.
- 6,278 potential sites identified in Texas
- At an average site size of 75MW, this could provide a theoretical 470GW and over 4,700GWh of long-duration energy storage capacity.
- Utilizing just 5% of these sites would provide
~23.5GW (greater than 235GWh) of energy storage.
- The elevated terrains in Central, Western, and Northern Texas are particularly well-suited for long-duration energy storage projects.

Austin: 487 possible sites

San Antonio: 641 possible sites

Fort Stockton: 632 possible sites
